Cirque du Soleil is back with Kooza!

Circus /ˈsəːkəs/  a travelling company of acrobats, clowns, and other entertainers which gives performances, typically in a large tent, in a series of different places.

I remember going to the circus when I was a kid. It was so long ago, but lots of fun and super entertaining. I had a chance to relive this circus experience with my kids last night at Cirque Du Soleil Kooza! I’m older now, but it seemed MORE fun and MORE entertaining!

Cirque du Soleil is the award winning theatrical production company from Canada. It travels round the world, putting up exciting and thrilling shows that incorporates circus styles around the world. It is always a treat when we hear that Cirque du Soleil is in town… we just can never know what to expect in each of their shows!

Kooza acrobats

In Singapore from now till 20 Aug, it’s time for KOOZA! Inspired by the Sanskrit word Koza which means “box” or “treasure”, this is an international cast of 50 acrobats, musicians, singers and actors from 19 different countries! If you think that would just mean all of us going “WOOOOO” and “AHHHHH” throughout the show, there was more!

It was so entertaining we couldn’t blink lest we miss a stunt. There’s always something happening every other moment!

Kooza Hoops

One hot favourite was on the tightrope… I was at the edge of my seat, the kids had their eyes GLUED on the performers, you can’t help but hold your breath, clasp your hands together and then gasp at the brilliant performance! (Nathan had a lot of jaw dropping sound effects here!) One can only imagine the number of hours they put in to execute all these stunts with such precision!

Here’s two short snippets of the some of the don’t blink-don’t breathe moments (there were other more death defying stunts which obviously went off-focus when we tried to take a shot, cos our eyes were not on the camera!!)

At the end of the day, the Kooza experience was simply phenomenal. The creative use of live music and performers throughout the show never fails to entertain and as the show advertised, we were brought on a journey filled with “electrifying thrills and out of the box surprises”. While the kids were asking, “How did he do that?”, the adults were echoing the same question in our minds!

Our circus experience last night was really a mind-blowing one and extremely enjoyable! If you’ve never watched any Cirque du Soleil shows, do try to make your way to Kooza. And if you are a fan, what are you waiting for?
