PurelyFresh brings the Freshest for Three-Egg Steamed Dish

One of my goals I set for myself this year is to try 40 different dishes in celebration of me turning 40. You can read more about it here! I can’t really remember why I decided on this, but I figured it would be something the entire family can be a part of (something to eat!!) and it would be nice to go beyond my comfort zone and try something new!

The challenge I face when choosing what to cook is sourcing for the ingredients. You see, I decided to do dishes that I’ve never done before, but tasted yummy. Part of the 40 dishes are: Char Siew, Japanese Bread, Butter Chicken Tikka etc. Sounds good ya? But do you know how tough it was to find the right ingredients for these dishes? From the recipes, I see strange sounding foreign items, or familiar ones but have never bought before items. I can walk around the supermarket and search and search and not know which shelf or corner to go to!

So I was delighted when I tried PurelyFresh! All I had to do was go to the search function and type in the ingredient required, and when I clicked on it, decide on the quantity needed, and that’s it! No fuss at all!

For my #20 dish, I decided to try my very favourite Egg Dish. My grandma made a gorgeous version of this, and I’ve had yummy ones at Catonese restaurants or Cze Char places. But I’ve never tried making it, cos I was happier just eating it. This was the very delicious Three-Egg Steamed Dish with Minced Meat. I found a really easy recipe from Goody Foodies and adapted it.

I ordered the ingredients from PurelyFresh:

Shopping PurelyFresh

It was easy! All we needed to buy was Century Egg, Salted Egg, Regular Chicken Egg, and minced chicken. So on the day the food arrived, I decided to make the dish, to maximise the freshness!

This is what we needed:

1. 3 Eggs and Minced Chicken

If you are as unfamiliar with Century Egg and Salted Egg like me, you would be thinking are the eggs soft or hard boiled? I actually called my mum to find out! Hahaha I didn’t want my hands to be in a mess if I’m only expecting something hard-boiled! So for the uninitiated, the Century Egg is already hard boiled, although the egg is very soft and fragile. The Salted Egg on the other hand is soft and runny. The shell is very hard (harder than normal) the whites are watery and the yolk is hard (not powdery like hardboiled yolks, but sticky and gooey).

2. Chicken Egg and Salted Egg

I broke the 3 chicken eggs and 1 salted egg in a bowl. Then I removed the salted egg yolk and chopped it together with the century egg into small pieces.

Chopped Century Egg and Salted Egg

So pretty, ya? I just loved the colours when the eggs were chopped!

Anyway, beat the Chicken Eggs well, and add your favourite seasoning. I added Salt, Pepper and some Sesame Oil. I put in the minced chicken and mix well. Then I added some hot water, and poured the entire mixture into a baking tin. (A nice casserole would be great, but this baking tin would suffice for now!) After that, sprinkle the lovely chopped century egg and salted egg.

All Ready

There you go! Put the egg dish in a steamer and put on high fire for 3 min, then turn it down to medium fire and cook for another 5 min or till the eggs set and become firm. Sprinkle some spring onion and it’s ready!

Steamed Egg

It was super yummy and so easy to do! It helps that the eggs and minced chicken were very fresh to bring out all the natural flavours!

Go ahead try it! The kids LOVED it!!
